Scott County Congressional Townships

Scott County Townships
When Scott county was created, it was made up of four full Congressional townships (T15N/R13W, T14N/R13W, T14N/R12W, T13N/R12W) and six partial townships (T15N/R14W, T15N/R12W, T14N/R14W, T14N/R11W, T13N/R13W, T13N/R11W). Each of the full townships is 36 square miles, 6 miles on a side, containing 36 sections. When looking at the land records you will see the township and section referenced, along with a reference to the particular portion of the section involved using terms like NWNW for the NW part of the NW quarter of a section. A section contains 640 acres and land transactions are often even multiples of 40 acres.
